When disaster reaches the Carolinas, know where to turn.
Crisis Compass is building a county-by-county record of the organizations that can help after a disaster, so a county’s request reaches the right people faster. If you need help right now, start here.
Before
We’re mapping who can help, county by county.
We’re building a checked list of which organizations can provide what in each of the 146 counties in North and South Carolina: generators, warehouse space, chainsaw crews, legal help, financial counseling and more.
We confirm each listing with the organization itself and check it again every three to six months, so the numbers work when they’re needed.
- The goal: checked partners in every county

During
When a county asks, we find partners who can answer.
When emergency managers or recovery groups need something, we’ll reach the checked partners who serve that county, confirm what they can send and follow it until it arrives.
We support county emergency management and 211 and never take their place. In an emergency, call 911.

During
Storms reach the mountains too.
In 2024, Hurricane Helene came ashore in Florida, crossed Georgia and brought deadly wind and flood damage to the South Carolina Upstate and Western North Carolina, hundreds of miles inland.
That’s why our work covers every county in both states, from the coast to the Blue Ridge.

After
Recovery takes months.
Families face insurance claims, aid applications, contractors and, too often, pressure to sell. Our guides walk through each step in plain language, and free legal aid and financial counseling services can help with the rest.

What we promise
We put these rules in writing so you know where we stand.
-
Property
Crisis Compass never buys property from the people we serve, and we never refer anyone to a property buyer.
-
Personal information
Our systems hold information about organizations, volunteers and supporters. We don’t collect personal details about families affected by a disaster, and we never sell, rent or trade anyone’s information.
-
Government
We support emergency management and recovery groups. We never speak for a government agency or claim an endorsement we don’t have.
For organizations and volunteers
County emergency managers, long-term recovery groups, churches, nonprofits, businesses with trucks or warehouse space: if you help when disaster comes, we want to know what you can offer and where.
It takes about five minutes, and we follow up personally before anything else happens.
Adding your organization is free and doesn’t commit you to anything.
